About Elixir Software

Our Vision is to improve R&D project delivery through better team working.
Elixir Software Ltd was formed by a team of experienced research scientists and software engineers, with the vision of improving project delivery through better team working. Founded in 2012 and located in the Alderley Park BioHub (Cheshire UK), Elixir created its innovative workflow management tool iTraX, to set a new industry standard for project delivery through team working.

Paul Faulder  PhD

Paul has over a decade of experience in drug discovery research within the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical sectors working for AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Amgen and Tularik. With over 20 patents and publications, he has engaged and collaborated with many world class scientists across multiple global projects.


Having experienced the complexities for effective communication between collaborators, he recognised the need of scientists in teams and managers, for more efficient and transparent solutions to provide greater partnering insight.


This realisation, coupled with his entrepreneurial interests, led Paul to co-found Elixir Software Limited, a company with the aim of providing high quality and cost effective IT solutions to this market.

Martin Harrison  PhD

Martin has 18 years of software development experience in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical sectors including AstraZeneca, Amgen, Tularik, Protherics and Proteus Molecular Design.


His activities have focussed on the integration of chemoinformatics with process management to support the design – make – test – analysis cycle of the drug discovery process.


He has won numerous awards including an AstraZeneca Global Innovation Award for contributing to effective management of global drug discovery projects.


He has extensive experience in agile software development in both Scrum and Kanban environments alongside test-driven development and product owner experience.

David Hollinshead  PhD

David has experience of creating innovative partnerships across academia and industry, frequently involving multiple partners and up to a value of £15m.

With a career spanning more than 25 years across academia, and pharmaceutical R&D in AstraZeneca, he has embraced synthetic and medicinal chemistry, the development of chemical technologies, and science policy shaping successful R&D. As well as overseeing medicinal chemistry programmes and implementing technology platforms, David initiated early Discovery outsourcing.

His extensive knowledge from working with collaborators world-wide, and understanding of successful partnering underpins the business aims.

David combines his role as Commercial Director, with the same position at Cresset. Through his global experience and direct interactions with people across industry he is always seeking ways to serve customers better.

His fundamental rule is to listen to the customer in order to discover and understand their needs; he has extensive commercial experience with software and technology solutions in the scientific market. 

David has been responsible for business development and strategic commercial growth at Cresset and also previously at Symyx Technologies and CambridgeSoft. David has a PhD and BSc in Microbiology from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

David is the founder and chief of Tinsley-based diversified engineering group OSL and a senior figure within the Cutlers’ Company.

David set up his first company in 1981 and has built up his business, by acquisition and organic growth, to a group of six manufacturing companies serving a global market, turning over £35 Million and employing over 400 staff.

He was awarded an MBE in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List for his Services to Industry and Regeneration in Sheffield and has recently been elected to the Sheffield City Region LEP Board. David’s wealth of experience serves mainly to provide advice and strategic direction to the Elixir Board.
Ray Tran  BEng
HEAD OF INFRASTRUCTURE & DEVELOPMENT

Ray has more than 20 years experience as a software engineer. During his career he has worked for several blue-chip companies covering diverse aspects of software development.

Experienced in software architecture, networking, infrastructure and task automation to improve the software development/deployment process; Ray focuses on the quality of software being produced and has introduced Test-Driven-Development (TDD) and Continuous-Integration (CI) in many development teams. He also has experience in security testing of software.
